fuzzi bunz update...

no more leaking! for the past 2-3 weeks now, our fuzzi bunz leaking issue has been solved. here's the routine: for normal awake times, caleb wears a regular fuzzi bunz diaper. for nap time, we double up on the liner, and for bedtime, he wears a disposable. it's a lot to keep track of, but it's working for us and i get the best of both worlds... cloth diapers to help the environment and keep him from getting diaper rash, and no early wake-ups because of leaking. hooray!

a love-hate relationship

that's what i have right now with fuzzy bunz, the cloth diapers we use with caleb.
things i love: doing something good for the environment, the fun colors, how easy they are to clean, that caleb never gets diaper rash, not having to buy diapers all the time.
things i hate: caleb leaking through them every single night for the past week... at about 5-5:30 in morning... and then not going back to sleep once we change his diaper and clothes.

smells

i have a bad sense of smell... REALLY bad. i can't tell if milk has gone bad, if we pass by a skunk on the side of the road, if someone has had garlic for lunch, or if something is burning. this can be a bad thing, for sure, but sometimes it can be good. like not being able to smell dirty diapers or morning breath. anyway, while i was pregnant, my sense of smell became much more acute. i learned that chocolate chips have a smell... and i don't like it. and cinnamon smells amazing!! i was hopeful that after being pregnant maybe my sense of smell wouldn't go all the way back to how it was before. but today, while getting dinner in the crock pot, i realized that i couldn't really smell the difference between cumin and chili powder. i've officially lost any gains i made. sigh...

found his foot

caleb has found his foot! his left foot, to be specific. i thought that when babies found their feet, they found them both, but caleb is teaching me that i still have a lot to learn! for a long time, he just held his knees, but now he likes his left foot and his right knee. it's super cute... but makes diaper changes a bit more difficult :)

cloth wipes

i need to learn that people know what they're talking about. so many people have said to me, "if you're doing cloth diapers you should do cloth wipes, too. it's really easy." why didn't i believe them? cloth diapers weren't gross but for some reason cloth wipes would be? that doesn't make sense! so, this week i've started using cloth wipes. and, sure enough, it's easy. and i love just throwing them in with the diapers. it's cutting down on garbage even more and they wipe caleb way better.

super pee

i give up. i think caleb is just a more forceful pee-er than most or something. but he just goes through diapers like they're cheap! first it was disposable so i was really excited to get the cloth ones. those help a bit but then he started getting through those, too. we used disposables again thinking maybe we had hard water and needed to do a treatment on the fuzzi bunz. he peed through the disposables again. then we did the treatment on the cloth diapers. we thought it worked because he wore 3 or so of them without peeing out of them. then it happened again this morning. partially it's annoying to have to do so much laundry all the time. but the real bummer is the fact that it always happens when he's sleeping. so then he wakes up and won't go back to sleep and so gets grumpy because he's sleep-deprived. our poor little pee monster!

fuzzi bunz

we started using fuzzi bunz recently... they are the cutest little cloth diapers. i love the colors and how soft they are but i was a bit hesitant to get started. honestly, i thought i would be totally grossed out by them. especially since we are washing them ourselves. but, i decided to give it a shot and i am so glad that i did! i actually don't mind the laundry. it's far less disgusting than seeing the heaps and heaps of dirty diapers we were throwing away. i'm not too much of an environmentalist, but i just couldn't handle all that trash! now i just wash them every 2-3 days and while i fold them i get to teach caleb his colors. what a great investment :)
