"google-whack"

i read about this game this morning and decided i had to play...

basically, what you do is try to put together words so randomly that google only has ONE search result for it. the funny thing is that once you blog about it, then there are two results... which means the more people who play, the harder it gets :) fun, right? you can read a bit more about this at http://www.googlewhack.com/. it used to be that people could actually find 2 word "google-whacks" but i'm not sure that's possible anymore.

i want to see who can do this in the fewest words. but i don't actually know how to do the "mr. linky" thing so you'll just have to leave a comment if you participate. or i can try to figure it out. i guess i should learn someday... whatever.

here's mine: muskrat potato shadow nihilistic curling participle festering miller pastiche liposuction peters Piccadilly warehouse Jamba

14 words. how about you?

**ps... i tried to learn and include a mr linky. but then gmail pooped out on me and i need my confirmation code. sigh.

6 words...

thanks to my friend hannah, i've been tagged for a meme game. here's how it works... this meme originated over an idea that was prompted by the book written by larry smith & rachel fershleiser. it’s a compilation based on the story that hemingway once bet ten dollars that he could sum up his life in six words. his words were, “for sale: baby shoes, never worn." in another blog i read, melissa summed up her life by the words, "still talks too much in class"

so, i've been challenged to sum up my life in six words. and here they are...

broken mirror: inadequately reflecting His light

i would love to hear what others come up with... i had about 3 i was working on in various forms before this one came together.

1 - 2 - 3

there sure are a lot of these memes floating around... oh well, this one is short and seems kind of fun!

Here are the rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more. No cheating!
2. Find page 123.
3. Find the first 5 sentences
4. Post the next 3 sentences
5. Tag 5 people

ok, so the nearest book to me (of that length) is... let me see... a book of greek myths that troy was given for his birthday. it's very interesting, actually, to see how many writers borrow from the ideas in myths or that myths borrowed ideas from the bible. anyway...

in disgust she (Athena) threw the flute down to earth and put a curse on it. Marsyas, a satyr who was capering about in the Phrygian woods, found the flute and began to play on it. when he discovered he could play two melodies at the same time, he was wild with joy"

based on this myth, marsyas is considered sort of a "father of flutes" and there are several flute resources that bear his name.

i don't really have 5 people to tag who will actually do this... actually, janell is the only one who ever does and she's the one who tagged me! so, i'll just tag The Lochheads

happy valentine's day

i found this meme reading melissa the mouth's blog and thought it would be fun to do this week.
1. Where / how did you meet your spouse?
we actually met our senior year of high school when we were both visiting whitworth to see if that's where we wanted to go for college. we ended up bowling on the same lane and sitting by each other at didier's. i left thinking we would be friends if we both went there... he left thinking he would marry someone like me. we were both right.

2. How long have you known each other?
well, we met in the spring of 1999, so that would be about 8 1/2 years

august 10th, 2002
8. How many people came to your wedding reception?

14. Did your spouse cry during the ceremony?
i think he got teary, but no real crying.
15. Most special moment of your wedding day?
the whole day was wonderful! i especially loved when our friend was doing a dance while we lit the unity candle... it gave us a chance to talk about how we were doing and take it all in. also, i LOVED our rehearsal bbq dinner at a park. but since that wasn't on the wedding day, maybe it didn't count. 16. Any funny moments?

everything about the ring bearer and flower girl was funny! during the ceremony, the flower girl actually laid down on a step and started kicking her feet... sometimes even kicking up the dress of one of the bridesmaids.
17. Any big disasters?
only an almost-disaster. the tux shop didn't give us everything we needed. for example, troy was missing a tux shirt! fortunately, the wife of one of the groomsmen was at near the store and picked up what was missing.
18. Where did you go on your honeymoon?
mammoth lakes, california. we drove there and got to hike in yosemite, play games, ride bikes, etc. it was a wonderful vacation.

one week

If you were to do your wedding over, what would you change?

22.
What size is your bed?
queen so we can still cuddle
23. Greatest strength as a couple?

we both are committed to loving God and living lives that glorify Him. and we have tons of fun together!
24. Greatest challenge as a couple?
i don't really know... maybe getting stuck in ruts of things to do.

25. Who literally pays the bills?
troy
26. What is your song?
we don't really have one. but if we did, it would probably be wonderful tonight by eric clapton because that's what troy played for me on his guitar as a part of our first date.

27. What did you dance your first dance to?
some random waltz. see, we had songs picked out and then our dj had some family emergency and had to send a replacement who didn't know about what we did and did not want. and he mispronounced our last name. blah.
28. Describe your wedding dress.
bright white... empire waist... white satin covered with embroidered white organza... white organza train... fetuchini straps... i felt like a fairy princess!

30. Are your wedding bands engraved?

troy's has "forever" engraved in it.

6 Non-Important things/habits/quirks about myself

i was tagged by janell to answer the above question... so here i go...

1. every night before i get into bed, i put lotion on my feet... troy calls it my "slimey" and i can't go to sleep without it.

2. i love to brush my teeth... not for any dental-hygiene reasons but just because i love the taste of Colgate.

3. i have calluses from carrying my heavy baby around in his infant carrier.

4. i shed so much in the shower that in order to keep from clogging the drain, i make hairballs and throw them against the side of the shower to throw away once i'm done. gross, i know.

5. i hate when people drop toothpaste in the sink. but it's too disgusting for me to clean up, so i just leave it and seethe...

6. i love watching The Dog Whisperer. i check out the dvd's from the library so i can watch them cuddled up on the couch.

i tag angel and elizabeth

books...

on a blog i read, i saw this post about various books. i liked it and thought i would answer the questions myself:

1. One book that changed your life: i don't know that it's changed my life, but reading Confessions of a Reformissional Rev by Driscoll certainly stirred life up a bit. reading that book made me take a look at what i think church should be and what sort of vision we want to be a part of as members of a church. it also led to troy listening to Driscoll podcasts and now we're attending Mars Hill. so... i guess you could say it changed my life.

2. One book you’ve read more than once: i read lots of books more than once. but i think the book i've read most of all is A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton-Porter. i read it first in elementary school and have read it at least once a year since then. it's sort of along the vein of Anne of Green Gables.

3. One book you’d want on a desert island: i'd definitely have to go with the Bible on this one... not only would it keep me occupied a lot of the time, but i could learn a whole bunch and, if i ever got off the island, hopefully my life would be changed because of the reading.

4. Two books that made you laugh: hmmm... i must not read a lot of funny books. the first that comes to mind is Marley and Me by John Grogan. also, books by Andrew Clement, especially Frindle.

5. One book that made you cry: i cry pretty easily in books, especially if anything happens to a pet (especially a dog) or a child. The first one i thought of when i read this question was A Child Called "It" by David Pelzer.

6. One book you wish had been written: i can think of a couple that would be helpful right about now. but most of all i wish there was a book called Setting and Living a Family Vision.

7. One book you wish had never been written: there are several books i've read that i wish i hadn't or books that i started and had a heck of a time finishing. but one book that really bothered me was Created to be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl. please, don't read that book.

8. One book you’re currently reading: i'm currently reading Better Late than Early by Moore about some alternate ideas about education.

9. One book you’ve been meaning to read: i've been meaning to read Prayer by Philip Yancey. i received it as a gift a while ago and troy read it, but i haven't picked it up yet. it's continually on my "to read" list.

anyone else want to jump in on these questions?
